                  Multiple Intelligences
                          Overview

Logical/Mathematical Intelligence
A child who is gifted in this area likes to figure out how to solve problems, can do “math in her head”, knows how much her item will cost and if she has been given the right amount of change, likes puzzles and games requiring strategies to win. She has an internal sense of patterning and knows how a group of numbers fits together.

Musical/Rhythmic Intelligence
This child has in internal sense of rhythm, may tap out rhythms unconsciously, hum while carrying out duties, can make up poems and tunes that flow, and likes to listen to music.

Intrapersonal Intelligence
Some researchers in personality theory think only about 25% of the population has a strong bend toward this intelligence, and perhaps 2.5 – 3% of people are gifted in this area.
Intrapersonal intelligence involves an interest in self-reflection, journal keeping, knowing oneself - strengths and weaknesses, a deep understanding of one’s personality and a constant analysis of why he felt or acted a certain way. This person may spend lots of time thinking things through.

Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence
This learner uses his body to learn. He may enjoy sports, drama, physical games, dance, and other forms of movement. Usually this child has a keen sense of body-awareness and where his body is in space. He may have an exceptional sense of balance and coordination. ( this is not always the case, though)

Interpersonal Intelligence
Know those folks who have never met a stranger? They just seem to know what to say, have great communication skills, love team effort, and have a deep sense of empathy. Enter interpersonal intelligence – an ability to relate well to other people. A child talented in this area may be a natural encourager and have good listening skills. He may prefer to work in a group or with a partner than alone.

Visual/Spatial Intelligence
Drawing, painting, molding clay may be some hobbies of a learner with this intelligence. She may be good at reading maps or have a very accurate memory of things she has seen. Adept at using her imagination, this child may enjoy “pretend” play.

Verbal/Linguistic Intelligence
These children love language, get jokes and puns, like making up stories and may be gifted at creative writing. They have a knack for getting understanding from text.

Natural Intelligence
Enter Daniel Boone, Johnny Appleseed, and the forest ranger. These children enjoy the outdoors, have a knowledge of plants, trees, animals in their environment. They may enjoy gardening and aren’t afraid of a few bugs and spiders! These are learners with a knack for nature.
