Free Home School Resources

Just the thought of getting something free raises my adrenaline level! The idea of free home schooling resources really gets me going!

Too many resources though, free or purchased, can overwhelm a parent to the point of inertia. I can recall numerous times when I had to plan a unit for my third graders and sat frozen, unsure of what to do first. The problem? Ten Native American teacher resource books and three thick folders of collected activities. How do you sort through all that information and find what’s most important?

Then there are the times I had collected so many items that I couldn’t find what I needed when it was time to teach a certain lesson.

So while it is a blessing to find resources at no or low cost, too much information can be paralyzing. Choosing wisely can be difficult, especially when two out of every three items you see in catalogs seem like “the” things to spur your child to new learning heights.

Resource #1

The most important Resource is One, in my opinion, Whom we often overlook. Christ. His advice is free!

God has all knowledge. He certainly knows how best to impart wisdom to His beloved children. So when faced with a purchase or even a freebie, we can ask Him, “Father, will this be important to my child’s education? Or is there a better way? Will this item just end up cluttering our lives?”

Jesus will give you the answer. I can think of times I did listen to Him and was so relieved and grateful that I did. Hindsight revealed that there indeed was a better way. Unfortunately, the times I have not listened are numerous, and sure enough, I discovered His way was best. Whew!

So, my first suggestion is to ask Christ what you need home schooling wise.

God has put your child together like no other human being – the Holy Spirit has chosen gifts to give your child that others may not have. Therefore, it’s okay if your home schooling friends highly recommend a certain product or idea and it totally flops with your son or daughter. We’re all different. Your child could easily succeed with one product that might completely frustrate another learner.
